WackDonalds: Final Papercraft Model


Introducing WackDonalds, the worst fast food brand in town. WcDonalds, as you may have guessed, is McDonalds but upside down. For the final product, I have upscaled and added additional features on the lid.

I added the buttons that are pressed when ordering a drink and the cross for the straw to enter.

For this project, we were given the task to craft a self-supporting object using concept designs molded by the bend, twist, taper, and/or stretch tool. It was a great pleasure working with Jenna on this project! These are the 6 concepts that I came up with when playing around with Rhino using the loft, twist, taper, stretch, and bend tools.  We have decided to incorporate Jenna's octagonal tubes with my snail-like design.   To help us visualize the final product, we drew some concept sketches.  We ran into some issues in the simulation phase before printing so we had to trim some parts. This is what it looks like before printing.  The final product is a fusion between the arcs and tube-like structures from our original concepts.

Giving Life to Animals - Origami by Hoang Tien Quyet (Papercraft: Research)

Origami Animals     Origami is a Japanese artform that has been around for thousands of years and is an beautiful piece of culture that is practiced all over the world. Hoang Tien Quyet, a Vietnamese artist, creates origami, but adds his own unique spin on it.   Quyet applies the wet-folding method to curve paper, rather than solely relying on straight lines, which is a technique invented by a master named Akira Yoshizawa. To use this technique, you must ensure the paper is a bit moist for the effective curves, and thick because regular paper is too fragile. He also adds personality and character to these animals by playing around with their poses.  In addition to the animals, Quyet also expands his subject by creating plants, objects and human figures.  There is also a sense of realism because of the round features that can only be done effectively with wet-folding.
