Giving Life to Animals - Origami by Hoang Tien Quyet (Papercraft: Research)

Image
Origami Animals     Origami is a Japanese artform that has been around for thousands of years and is an beautiful piece of culture that is practiced all over the world. Hoang Tien Quyet, a Vietnamese artist, creates origami, but adds his own unique spin on it.   Quyet applies the wet-folding method to curve paper, rather than solely relying on straight lines, which is a technique invented by a master named Akira Yoshizawa. To use this technique, you must ensure the paper is a bit moist for the effective curves, and thick because regular paper is too fragile. He also adds personality and character to these animals by playing around with their poses.  In addition to the animals, Quyet also expands his subject by creating plants, objects and human figures.  There is also a sense of realism because of the round features that can only be done effectively with wet-folding. The level of complexity and precision really shows how much care and practice he has p...

Ramen Ocean - Mesh Editing & HD Renders

Exploring A Newfound Sea Although it took quite some time to grow accustomed to Rhino, I still tried to implement the feedback I received from my experience with Tinkercad. I was recommended to focus on aligning the elements in an orderly fashion to harmonize the composition. Studio Lighting on White Plane Toronto Evening on Bamboo Wood Plane  Spotlight on Green Background Point Light on Gradient Background Spotlight on Purple Background Sun and Two Spotlights on Lavender Plastic Plane  When assigning materials, I ran into a problem. The noodles had to be selected separately, so in order to fix that, I used the MeshBooleanUnion command to tell the system that all the noodles are one unit. I used the water plaster material and set it to custom for the broth. In addition, I made sure there was some transparency to reveal a bit of what’s underneath. The material I used was in a shape of hexagon, so I used the MeshTrim command to cut off the edges. For the lighthouse and house ...

Time to Get Whacky with Mashups

Concept Generation  In this phase of the Mesh Mashup project, we are tasked to incorporate remix culture, or better known as, read/write culture. This method of creation allows us to generate new works by fusing original ideas and materials, which could transform anything normal into a silly mess, hopefully in a good way.  Degrading Environment  When I think of how we might accidently spill water, it reminds me of the larger accidents we cause. We are wasting the environment for objects that will inevitably become garbage. I have chosen a cup, some fresh trees that transition to bare trees, and a trash bin to illustrate this.  https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2978957 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1595362 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3029551/files https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4789723 Capitalism  I often ponder how the dominant corporations on this planet love to venture out for more capital gains. Humans always want to pursue more because we are...

A Friendly Addition to the Workspace - The Robot Clock

Image
Ever feel a sense of discomfort when thinking about about the time? Looking at a clock could feel daunting, especially when you're just woken up. Have no fear because the robot clock is here to get you feeling comfy and ready to work.  In Gary Hustwit's documentary, Objectified, a designer who goes by the name of Karim Rashim, mentions the evolution of cameras and how the shape of the camera has not changed. This reminded me of clocks and how the typical shape of a clock is either a rectangle or a circle. His passion for designing objects that represent the digital age has inspired me to craft a clock that goes beyond the constraints of conventional form.  I figured that a cute design would make the user feel more comfortable with having a clock nearby. After all, time is everything in life and it could cause a lot of worry. So a design that makes thinking of time a little more relaxing, could possibly make someone's day. It also gives it more character and will stand out f...
